Alfred DeGreat Dudley

Life-long Student and Patriarch

​

Alfred Dudley, Sr., attended North Carolina A&T University and was bestowed a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He was passionate about learning and continued his studies at Catholic University of America. As a tribute to

his life of helping and teaching others, Alfred received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Breakthrough Bible College.

He married the love of his life and business partner, the late Joyce Dudley, in 1958. During their 64-year union, they had

four children; Michelle, Alfred Jr., Jeffrey, and Melanie and 9 grandchildren; Joyce, Alfred III, Mayen, Camryn, Jeffon, Maiev, Faith, Grace and Tamora.

 

Illustrious Career

Alfred Dudley, Sr. was employed as an engineer for the following national organizations: the U.S. General Services Administration, the National Institute of Health, and the United States Navy Department in Washington, DC. After many years of dedication and hard work, he chose to resign from his government service to work with his brother Joe Dudley, Sr. at Dudley Products, Inc. to become a job maker

instead of a job taker. Alfred was instrumental in developing sales forces for Dudley

Products in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. He was the #1 salesperson in the company for many years. In fact, Alfred earned the title of President & Most Valuable Dudley-ite so many times that he was given special recognition as the first and only President Emeritus at Dudley Beauty Corp, LLC.

He believed that he could do it all and later purchased and became President of Dudley Beauty College located 2031 Rhode Island Ave NE, Washington, DC.

 

Leader & Mentor

Mr. Alfred Dudley, Sr. was an exemplary and outstanding role model and leader for his family, the community, Dudley Beauty College, Dudley Products, Inc. and Dudley Beauty Corp, LLC. He traveled all over the world training sales representatives in effective sales strategies and helping cosmetologists, barbers, nail technologists and students in the beauty industry. He was instrumental in helping them build their businesses to become successful entrepreneurs. Alfred loved being a mentor to many and welcomed the opportunity to assist them in achieving their professional goals. His

main objective was “to utilize his education, skills and expertise to help others.”

Alfred made everyone smile when he answered their question about how he was doing. His infectious response was “I’m better than good, better than most and even sometimes better than that. Hello! Thank you for asking”.

World Renown

Mr. Alfred Dudley, Sr. has received numerous awards and citations but one of his most cherished one was the 2006 Outstanding Individuals and Organizations for their Demonstrated Leadership in Business given by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Washington DC Chapter. He has been an Icon in the Beauty Industry and a Champion to many. His life philosophy was "If you work hard on yourself, then you can be anything you want to be in life. " Alfred embodied this philosophy which was reflected in his work ethic and all that he did to change the

lives of others.

 

Legacy

His hard work ethic, valuable knowledge and vast experience led him to be a role model for many and an outstanding pillar in the community. His zeal for developing people to their full potential has been a great source of inspiration and motivation for his family, students, and staff. We know that Mr. Dudley’s life and legacy will live on for many generations to come. He leaves to cherish his memories, his children, Michelle, Alfred Jr., Melanie (Landrick), his grandchildren, Joyce (Miles), Alfred III, Mayen, Camryn, Jeffon, Maiev, Faith, Grace and Tamora, his brothers, William Dudley, Joe Dudley, Sr, Cornelius Dudley (Emma), MacArthur Dudley, George Dudley (Blanche), his sisters Mardecia (Pete), Elsie (Juarez), a host of beloved nieces and nephews, Dudley Beauty College staff, Dudley Beauty Corp, LLC family, loyal customers, and friends
